Place:

As you find so many places in Rome where they serve good coffee:  What is so special about this one?  Founded in 1946 it is one of the oldest coffee bars in Rome which still roasts its own coffee.  Also the atmosphere in a place that announces the best coffee in the world must be special, right?

People in the bar are a great mix of locals and (very often helpless) tourists.  So get your cappuccino and a find some space at the bar (there's no seats available) to sip and watch.

I've been there in the middle of the 70ies for the first time — and Tazza D'Oro is still there and one of my favorite places to have a coffee:  Piazza della Rotonda and the Pantheon are just around the corner.  It's a classic!

What they offer:

I cannot remember I ever had anything else than coffee there.  Didn't even look for anything else than espresso or cappuccino — except for the fabulous Granita di Caffè.

Granita di Caffè is a very refreshing coffee sorbet.  If you take it "con panna" you get whipped cream on top.  Ice cold and perfect on a hot summer day!

I am not sure if they still offer that but I remember they once served Granita di Limone.  Well, you can easily guess what that is:  Good for you if you don't drink coffee.

Service:

These waiters behind the bar are just cool.  Well, we're in Italy!  I made the cashier laugh one time though — and I was soooo proud ... ;-)

Overall:

A must if you like coffee — and even if you don't:  Check your weight on that huge scale they have in the room.  With all the good Italian food you might need that. ;-)

Remark:

Did you see my collection of espresso cups already? Can you believe I have none of Tazza D'Oro?
